Jackiem Joyner

Born in Norfolk, VA, Joyner came through the church choir where he also played drums before taking up the saxophone in high school. He won three NAACP youth achievement awards for contemporary instrumental, composition and classical music. After high school Joyner was employed by the church as head of the music department in Norfolk.

Along with Keiko Matsui, in recent years Joyner has performed onstage with Marcus Johnson, Bobby Lyle, Angela Bofill, Ronnie Laws, Jean Carne, Peter White, Gerald Albright, Joe Sample and the late Wayman Tisdale.

“Babysoul”, Joyner’s first album, debuted at #15 on the Billboard chart in 2007. His sophomore release, “Lil’ Man Soul”, spawned two #1 singles. Topping the smooth jazz radio charts for an incredible 12 weeks, “I’m Waiting For You” was the longest-running #1 single in 2009. “Dance With Me”, single of his latest album “Jackiem Joyner” (2010), already climbed to #3 on Billboard Jazz Songs chart.
